A lot happened in the month of September! Some of it was good news and some of it was bad news. We did take a great trip in September, which I will share with you eventually! This is the bad news post before the good news posts.

But first, the beautiful rainbow on TJ's last night at the farmhouse.
On August, 29, a day I will not likely forget any time soon, there had been a little "accident" back in our house in Sugar Land and both of us were feeling a bit lost. We found out from "super neighbor" that our house was a disaster inside. The air conditioning condensation drip pipe from the attic to the upstairs sink...to the sewer...had become blocked which caused the condensation drip to back up into the sink...out of the sink onto the bathroom floor...onto the wood floors upstairs, through the floor to the ceiling in the kitchen which eventually gave way and fell onto the kitchen floor and continued to drip for weeks until "super neighbor" went to put the month's mail inside and saw the disaster. Does reading this make you feel nauseous? It certainly made me feel nauseous when my friend called and told me...and even more so when I saw the photos.

Ewww, time for a kitchen reno
I managed to get in touch with a plumber who was there very quickly and unclogged the drain which stopped the leak. Got a crew within hours to start the cleanup and dry up process, which took them weeks. Worked with (still working with) the insurance company and our contractor to move the proverbial ball ahead. Without our excellent neighbors we never could have made as much progress, remotely, as we did! TJ went home for a week to coordinate and see everything in person. Our contractor said it was a good idea for us to stay away while they did all the super dusty sheetrock work, so we were able to go to a wedding in Verona that had been on the books since the spring. All I can say is it is so nice to have people you can trust in your life. Our neighbors really showed up for us, and we are very thankful for them. I wish I could say things are really coming together now that I am home but honestly, we have a long way to go.

Believe it or not...this is what progress looks like...
When I got home 2 weeks ago, I was expecting a disaster. Was it a disaster? Pretty much. I could definitely tell a lot had been done. I could also tell how much more needs to be done. I have a new ceiling in the kitchen and the lower 2 feet of sheetrock in the affected rooms has been replaced and painted. I am definitely living in a construction zone...no kitchen to speak of. I have access to the microwave, sink and fridge. My diet is about as different from the farmhouse diet of "go out in the backyard and pick some veggies, cook them, and add a protein" than it could be. I am trying to eat well but it has been a challenge.
The fun and daunting part has been dreaming of the updating we can do with the renovations. So many possibilities and so many decisions. One part of me wants to do it all and go in a very new direction, the other part of me wants subtle changes on a smaller scale. We will see which side wins out. My contractor is just throwing out ideas to me reasoning, "Everything is torn apart, if you want to do this, or that, or the other now is the time to do it." He has a point. Right now, all I want is my kitchen to be functional and a place to sit comfortably. Then we can move on to the upstairs...which is a whole other story!
Stay tuned for future updates.
